How I built my computer
I always want to know how to build computers, so I kept researching online about it and asking people I knew for information on it. When I finally decided to just do it, it really was not that hard. I went on http://www.newegg.com which is a website that has good deals on computer components. I went on this website and looked at all the parts and tried to get not the most expensive parts but pasts that would last but I did not need the fastest computer in the world, it would have been nice but I did not need it. What I did is a picked out the processor first, and then I looked at all the motherboards and I matched up the socket and speed that the motherboard supported. The motherboard was a gigabyte one and it had on board sound and LAN but did not have on board video. I did not want on board video because I wanted a better graphics card. The best slot at the time was AGP (which is PCI EXPRESS now) and so I got a AGP graphics card. I did not get the most expensive one just one that would look good and run good. I picked out a case which I had to get an ATX form factor which that is a really popular one, the other one is micro ATX which I did not want. I made sure the case had a lot of fans for ultimate airflow. I bought 2 CD Roms, one was a burner and one was a DVD-ROM. The hardrive which information is stored on was a Western Digital 80 gb Sata which is a different and faster interface then IDE. I bought 2 512 MB sticks of Kingston DDR ram which is 1024 MB all together or you can just say 1 gb. I bought that Artic 5 I think it is CPU thermal gel that you put on the CPU and it makes it cool and it is under the heat sink on top of the CPU which I bought also. The power supply is 500 w which I wanted a big one in case I went crazy and got a lot of stuff. It is clear so you can see through it and it had blue LEDS on the inside which make it lite up like a Christmas tree which is really awesome. The case also has LEDS which I forgot to mention. Of course I had to buy a keyboard and mouse and monitor and speakers also. I kept watching out the window for the delivery people to come and my dad and I went somewhere and came back and their all the boxes were and I was so excited. After I opened the boxes, I took the motherboard and case out. I made sure I put on the spaces that are behind the mother that connect to the case so the motherboard wouldn't short out. Then I connected on the other devices and started the computer up. I had to install the sata drivers before I could load windows because the hardrive needed these drivers to work. Then I just put the XP disc in and it went through its automated setup. After windows was loaded, then I installed all the drivers for all the devices. That was it and then I installed all the software I wanted. I built this in 2004 and I am still on it today. I would like to upgrade sometime but not right now or maybe get one of those apple computers. I have only reformatted it once and I make sure I run spyware removal software and anti virus software frequently. I thought this task would be hard but it was not that bad. If you put your mind to it, eventually you will accomplish your task.
