It's sure getting cold!

It is sure getting cold outside. You want to make sure you have a warm enough jacket for the winter. It would be a good idea to pack a blanket inside your car in case you break down and it's really cold and your in the middle of nowhere. Also you should have mittens and some flares and a flashlight. Some food would not hurt either. You want to make sure that your furnace is working properly, you can call someone to give it a tune up. There are alternate ways to heat your home. I have a pellet stove which I have to buy pellets but it heats my whole house pretty much (1024 square feet). This saves some money and it's not the hassle of wood. If you want to save a lot of money a wood stove would do the trick as long as you have wood available and you don't have to buy it. The reason I do not like wood stoves is because you have to fill them a lot. Plus you can't control the heat to well and it gets really hot in the house. Other then that they are pretty darn cool. If you are using your furnace, your going to want to have the thermostat 68 degrees or less to save some money. You can buy one of those programmable thermostats and that should save you money also. By redoing your weather stripping on your doors and stuff will block all the drafts that you have coming in. Also buy replacing your door threshold will do this also. You can even put a door sweep on. Replacing all the windows will really seal your house air tight and that is what you want. Also caulk any air leak holes that you can find. If you have a ceiling fan, switch it to the winter direction, this will make the house seem warmer because it won't allow the warm air to stay at the ceiling because heat rises. Thanks for listening to Jamie's safety and energy tips! I hope it helps!

Don't mean to spoil things, but getting cold is relative. Many of us are still running around in shorts.
