Why I don't smoke

A lot of people that I know smoke. Being around them sometimes made me feel pressured, but I still said no. My dad smoked for years, he finally quit. He had to quit because of his heart. I wish he would of quit a long time before that or that he had started in the first place.

First of all, it's really bad for your health. A lot of people know this but they don't realize how bad it really is. Sometimes we think "oh that's bad" but everything is bad at some point so then we never think twice. Smoking isn't good at all, they think they need it but they are just addicted because they started and cant stop.

Smoking not only increases your risk of serious diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke and lung disease, but it can also contribute to cosmetic problems such as wrinkles and discolored teeth. Why would you want to do something that increased the risks of all this?

The development of cataracts is 2-3 times higher in smokers then non-smokers. My dad was a smoker for a lot of years and he had to get surgery done in both eyes due to cataracts. In some studies, people who smoked have had hearing loss rather then people who did not smoking. Smoking around kids can cause ear infection. Smoking can reduce your sense of smell and cause cancer of your nasal cavity and nasal sinus. I love to bite into a juicy steak. Smoking can affect your sense of taste. A nice juicy steak wouldn't be that good to taste if I couldn't taste it now would it? It also affects the color of your teeth to be yellow, tooth decay, cancer of the mouth, and bad breath. Smoking is a major cause of strokes, causing strokes in 40% of people under 65. If you quit smoking, you will have the same risk of stroke as a non smoker in 5-15 years.

Smoking can cause cancer of the throat, voice box and food pipe. At least 50% of these cancers are caused by smoking. Smoking can make your skin discolored, dry, leather like, and with a ton of wrinkles especially around the eyes. Smoking is extremely bad for your lungs and causes lung cancer. It makes your more increase chance to respiratory infections. Smoking increases the risk of heart disease. Smokers risk of having a heart attack is 2-6 times higher then non-smokers. It’s good to know that if you quit smoking, your risk of heart disease drops dramatically after just 12 months. Smoking increases your risk of developing a stomach ulcer and stomach cancer.

The list goes on and on.

Basically all smoking does for you is cause a whole bunch of cancers that you don't want, makes it so you can't breath, gives you a great chance of messing up your heart and a whole bunch of other stuff. This is why I never started smoking and why I never will smoke. I don't want any of this and I don't see that it would be doing be any good cause all of this. Smoking is an unhealthy act. If you are trying to quit smoking, I wish you the best of luck to get your health back into your hands. If you never have smoked, that is awesome. If you smoke and you don't want to stop, I don't have anything against you, I just want you to know that it is unhealthy and all the effects of it to maybe make you think twice. If you still don't change your mind, that's your own choice. I will never touch one of those nasty things. I know in my mind what it will do to me and I know it won't help me in any way. This is why I don't smoke.
